While there is already a 5,000-kilometer-long path behind Ciril and his company on which they are spreading the story of the disappearance of the Triglav Glacier, Nik saw the "land of Toli" from a balloon. With a team of experienced balloonists, he rose 4,000 meters above sea level, admired our white peaks of the Julian Alps and landed on Pohorje. The first days of the new year were not white enough and especially cold enough for the people of Pohorje to properly prepare the ski resort with the finish arena above Maribor. This coming weekend, the traditional alpine ski competition for the World Cup - the Golden Fox - will be hosted for the third time in a row by the colder and snowier Kranjska Gora.
The foxes competed for the first time in Gorenjska in 1976 and then again in 1988, 1991, 2007, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2021. The reason has always been the same - lack of snow in Maribor! In ten years (2012 - 2022), more than half of Styrian matches will be organized "away". A clear indication that the "culprit" is increasingly rapid and significant climate change. This time the guest of Studio Triglav in the open air, Katja Koren Miklavc, confirmed to Nik that the situation on Pohorje has changed a lot in recent years.
The bronze slalom skier from Lillehammer 1994 and the silver fox exactly a year later in Maribor still remembers the snow-rich and cold winters at the popular Maribor ski resort, which can be reached by city bus. Will it be like this for a long time? The fact is that the warming of the atmosphere and thus the disappearance of winters on the lower ski slopes is the result of our human activities. So climate change can only be slowed down by humans. By example and awareness, as Katja also points out, especially the closest ones. Because they trust us and will follow us. So choose and take the first Olympic step and trigger a wave of change. We can do it together!
